As cooler days are headed our way, some of you might be trying to soak up those last bits of summer sun to keep your sun-kissed glow. Usually I’d be doing the same, but not this year.
I tried my best to keep my skin protected from the sun’s damaging rays this summer. This statement is HUGE coming from a girl who’s tried every trick in the book to stay tanned. I’m not one of those people who can pull off being pale; I just end up looking sickly in the winter. I’m also not the type of person who tans easily. I can achieve a decent tan from laying out but it takes a couple of weeks and sun burns to get there. I’ve come to realize it’s not worth it. It’s no news that skin cancer, and countless other skin problems, are caused by sun exposure. Exposing yourself to the potential skin problems for the price of temporary beauty is not exactly smart.
Sunless tanning has been my go-to for bronzing this summer, and continues to be as we transition into fall. I’ve tried every type of sunless tanning technique out there: oils, professional spray tans, mousses, lotions, home sprays, etc. I think it’s safe to say at this point I’ve experienced the pros and cons of all to help with the self-tanning dos and don’ts.
It does take some work to keep it up, more work than simply laying in the sun or in a tanning bed, but here are some tips I’ve discovered to make sunless tanning easier:
As the warm weather settles in for the next couple of months, I’m sure many people are just as happy as I am. Unfortunately, the heat, sun and humidity are all taking a toll on your hair. I find the extreme weather in both summer and winter dries out my hair, but the humidity of the summer months takes a bad hair day to a whole new level.
As someone who dyes my hair on a regular basis (it’s hard work being blonde!) and, honestly, doesn’t get it cut as much as I should (I know, I know, I’m bad), I’m always looking for solutions to the brittle tresses summer weather brings. The good news is, I’ve found an easy DIY solution and you just might already have the ingredients in your house.
Bikini. Season. Two words that can strike fear into even the most tough women’s hearts. A season that girls prepare themselves for months in advance just to look good in that cute little Victoria’s Secret bathing suit they bought. Honestly, I don’t agree with that lifestyle or the media’s idea of the perfect “bikini body”. The truth is there is no such thing. Every single one of us is different and we should be proud of that, not aiming to look the same as the cover of a magazine. Although the annual VS Fashion Show is still a blow to the ol’ self-esteem, it’s much more important to become the best you than to strive to look like someone else. That being said, there’s nothing wrong with eating healthy and exercising, just make sure that you do it right. Your goals should be feeling good, not only looking good.
